Simple Plans for Social Eating and Travel

It's one thing to stick with your diet regimen when you're at home, in control of the contents of your refrigerator and your portion sizes. But what about going out to dinner with friends? Worse, how do you stay on track when your dream vacation has you seated by the dessert cart at every meal?

Eating right when you're out of your comfort zone can actually be easier than when you are at home, so long as you think smart and plan ahead. Focus on these simple tips to help you enjoy your dinners out on the town without compromising your weight loss goals. Simple Plans

Incorporate meals out like any others. Don't skip meals beforehand. Plan. Don't be afraid to call ahead and find out what the specials are going to be and figure out a couple of choices. If that's not an option, ask someone with whom you're comfortable sharing your dietary concerns to help you.

Health: Diet Deliveries

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA In health, one of the hottest diet trends is easy; there's no cooking, no calorie counting, and no meetings. Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl says it helped one celebrity with a major transformation.Ricki Lake is showing off her new figure in Us Weekly, going from 250 pounds to 123.After years of yo-yo dieting, she says she finally found the solution -- an L.A. home delivery diet plan called Fresh Dining.Every morning, meals for the day, about 1,200 calories are dropped off. There are dozens of similar plans, sales reaching $800 million.Ronna Hall gets the zone diet delivered to her home in Penn Valley."It's a salmon salad sandwich, everything is very fresh and has a lot of flavor," Ronna said. The zone diet balances portions of protein and carbohydrates. Diet Delivery

(Don't hold your breath - Batali and Ducasse likely won't join the ranks of diet delivery services but some of these chefs certainly aim to emulate their
tastiness.)

The Race to Be a Big Loser
We always treat weight loss like it has to be done in X amount of time by X date. Nutritionists maintain it is a gradual process and commitment that melts the weight off, not a crash two-week course. These programs suggest long-term commitment with meals delivered daily. Of course the best results happen when healthy eating is combined with portion control and exercise.

The Importance of Eating Earnestly
We sampled the food from three different diet delivery meal plans: Zone Chefs, 5 Square Meals and Nutrisystem. A variety of factors were considered when sampling the fruits (vegetables, proteins and carbs) of each program.

Donna Maurillo, Food for Thought: Diet season comes with summer

Summer is always the time when people pay the most attention to their food intake. "Swimsuit season is here!" "Get in shape for summer!" We get it from magazine covers, resort-wear shops and our own internal voices.

We skip carbs, don't eat anything white — flour, sugar, bread, rice — skip meals, drink meal replacements, eat cabbage soup, avoid fat and try the latest herbal weight-loss fad. But does anything work? That's what the June issue of Consumer Reports wanted to know, so they did a study to compare results. What came out on top?

Of the popular diet plans, it was Volumetrics, followed by Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Slim Fast. The Atkins Diet came in last. In the middle were the eDiet, the Zone Diet and the Ornish Diet.

If you haven't heard about Volumetrics, it's a plan developed at Pennsylvania State University that trains you to eat greater quantities of low-calorie foods rather than small amounts of higher-calorie foods.

Carb concerns

My wife planned her meals meticulously, carefully monitoring a proper balance between the nutritional formula of carbohydrates, minimal fat and protein. Even so, she found herself hungering for a diet fix that wouldn't leave her bloated and craving for sweets. Her problems didn't end there. Day after day, she kept on adding those extra kilos, with little relief in sight. Regular walks and exercise didn't help much either.

It was then that the doctor recommended her to see a nutritionist. A visit later, she decided to go against the grain and skip the diet that current conventional wisdom holds is best — roughly 55% of calories from carbohydrates, 30% from fat and 15% from protein.

She opted for a formula that dictated more than double the protein and half the carbs.

Loons Slide Continues On Turn Back The Clock Day

The Loons celebrated turn back the clock day by emerging from a giant makeshift cornfield in the right field corner, as well as wearing the uniforms of the 1948 Saginaw Bears.

The Loons jumped out to an early lead in the ballgame thanks to a RBI-double by Josh Bell and a Rick Taloa sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. The Cougars would answer in a big way with five runs in the second thanks to five straight hitters reaching base off Loons starter Chris Malone to give Kane County a 5-2 lead. The Cougars would never look back scoring single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, including three runs in the ninth.

To rest his arm, the Loons scratched right-hander Josh Wall from his scheduled start. Due to the circumstances, Great Lakes turned to emergency starter Chris Malone who only went three innings allowing six runs while walking four in picking up his first loss as a Loon.

Round up of latest rock and metal album

Out Of Reach, The Diary and the two-part All Hands On Deck give the album its best moments but everything here is on the button and its good to have FFAF to tell the tales. 9/10

LINKIN PARK – MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT

In 2001, Hybrid Theory was 'groundbreaking;' in 2003, Meteora was a mature step in the right direction but a full four years later nearly to the month, Minutes To Midnight gets completely lost in the dark.

Given Up, the album's opening song, mirrors Meteora's Don't Stay slightly but any previous metal influence has been abandoned. Bleed It Out is catchy, clappy and happy but it certainly won't entertain an 80,000 strong crowd at this year's Download Festival as a headliner on a stage that's been just graced by the likes of Machine Head, Shadows Fall and Slayer.
